Hello Laura Jane: Paper Cutting Workshop

This here, right now — this is my absolute favourite time of year. As well as the warm and cosy clothes I’ve waxed lyrical about before, June means Dark Mofo winter festival season in Hobart. The city turns red, the art spills out onto the streets, and I get an excellent excuse to visit.

This year I had double the excuse, thanks to Bec from Thirteen Red Shoes! She teamed up with Sydney-based paper guru Laura Jane to bring her skills (and her person) down to Hobart for a day of paper cutting, great company, and super tasty treats.

West of Kin VIP Winter Menu Launch

When I say ‘Braybrook’, what do you think?

Melbournians: probably industrial warehouses, shipping containers and car yards.
Non-Melbourne people: possibly something relating to a donkey or a river which is honestly what I what was thinking as I tapped it into Google Maps (my brain may be wired differently to most).

Either way, delicious pan Asian cuisine is probably not top of your list — UNTIL NOW. INSERT DRAMATIC MUSIC.

Last week I was lucky enough to score an invite to West of Kin’s Winter menu launch dinner and holy cow, Braybook is now on my radar of tasty things. Sister restaurant…

Zülch Instagram Giveaway

Shh — do you hear that? Feel that? Smell that? It’s WINTER, BABY. At last, I can cover my white, goosebumpy legs in stockings and jeans and avoid blinding all the poor unsuspecting folk in the streets.

Winter is my favourite season. I love cosy jumpers, I love layers, I love all things warm and fuzzy — and there’s nothing more warm and fuzzy than the feeling of giving someone a gift (how’s that for a segue!)

I’m super excited, and only slightly jealous, to be giving away this blackest black pouch from Zülch; a little boutique here in Melbourne….

Five Things | May 2016

May! My month of birthdays.

I think everyone has one of those months. There’s just one birthday after another, and you end up counting backwards nine months out of gross curiosity to figure out just why everyone’s parents were so excitable then (September is the start of Spring here. I think that explains it.) I have a good 22 friends and relatives — plus myself! — with a May birthday, which makes the whole month feel fun and celebratory. In my mind it’s a holiday month, on par with December (CHRISTMAS!) and March/April (EASTER!).

So I hope you’re having an…

Merchant: Ode to Sunday

Ode to Sunday online: website / Instagram

Are you ready for the latest dose of deliciousness to fall into my inbox?

It’s no secret that I’m an enormous fan of linen, even if my SO has an annoying habit of groping every linen shirt, dress, or doona we find in stores to watch it crinkle.

As Ode to Sunday pust it, “when left to its own devices, it wrinkles like a smile.”

Isn’t that lovely!

Ode to Sunday is a gorgeous, new independent fashion studio, creating effortless style through socially conscious methods. The pieces are made with linen woven by the oldest flax…

The Middle Aisle: Macrame Workshop

If there’s one thing I really love about Melbourne, it’s the sheer amount of opportunities the city holds for learning, and making, and doing. I’ve mentioned my particular affinity for dabbling before, and the more new things I learn the more I want to learn. More! MORE! Luckily, last weekend I was given the opportunity to sate my learning appetite by going along to The Middle Aisle’s macrame workshop, hosted by owner/creator/macrame extraordinaire Maggie May (which, let’s face it, would make an amazing superhero name on alliteration alone. Wade Wilson? Matt Murdock? Jessica Jones? Maggie effin’ May.)

If you’re not…
