Influences: Oriental Rugs

It’s funny how your tastes can change so dramatically over time. If you’d asked me how I felt about colourful rugs a few years ago, I’d probably say “meh”. I was all about white, and clean, and minimal. Maybe a bit of light pine if I was feeling adventurous.

Now however, I’ve decided that I like colour and simply must have some kind of turkish kilim or moroccan rug. Possibly even a tan leather couch. Throw some dark cherry wood in there, why not!

I’ll let you know how this goes >.>

Merchant: Sweet Gum Co

Sweet Gum Co. online: website

Featuring a collection of vintage and handmade items from Tennessee and the South, Sweet Gum Co. is a gorgeous little homewares shop of found and handmade goods.

The store aims to feature products that tell a story, do good work, and look amazing doing so. It’s a true celebration of the people who care enough to work with their hands to build objects of beauty and function, that make the mundane realities of scooping, cutting, sipping, and all the other choreography of home life handsome & holy.

Love!

Merchant: woodfolk

I always enjoy stumbling upon something new and great to share, and it’s even more exciting when that thing also happens to also be socially and sustainably great!

Woodfolk is a creative accessories brand by Australian jeweller and designer Julia Denes, in collaboration with artisans from Nepal. Sustainably-grown Nepalese hardwood is used, along with natural or non-toxic dyes, to create the most gorgeous jewellery, bags and scarves.

The collaboration with these small family-run businesses is fantastic; creating opportunity, self-determination, support and hope through social entrepreneurship, and it definitely makes this one inspiring label to keep your eye on!

Merchant: Blackbird goods

Blackbird Goods online: facebook / instagram

The merchant I’m sharing today holds a bit of a special place in my heart.

Blackbird Goods opened their doors just four days ago over in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, but I’ve been following the journey of owners Gemma Adams and her husband for a few years now on the Blackbird blog. Gem is a true creative polymath β€” stylist, photographer, maker, blogger and DIY extraordinaire.

Blackbird is one of a small handful of blogs I visit regularly, and one of the few that inspired me to create my own little corner of the…

DIY: simple wooden cat scratcher

If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed my little four-legged friend popping up every so often β€” that’s Luffy; the cutest and prettiest cat in the entire world (if you’re an anime-watcher / manga-reader you might recognise his namesake as Luffy (“loo-fee”) from One Piece)

He’s the love and light of the household, and is as totally spoiled as you would probably expect. Just look at that face, though. Can you blame us?

So on our days off we do what any normal couple would do, and make things for our cat. This wooden scratcher is super simple,…

Merchant: one fine print

One Fine Print online: website / facebook / twitter / instagram / pinterest

Those that know me know my love for simple, natural, minimal goodness.

They also probably know my love of prints, although my rented walls aren’t the really the best canvas for hanging things. It certainly makes finding spectacular things such as One Fine Print upsetting to say the least!

One Fine Print work with talented Australian photographers to produce a range of artwork perfect for covering your empty (owned or rented) walls. It’s a perfectly curated collection of organic and abstract images that make absolutely stunning prints.

The range is…

soft and airy californian home

Ahhhh I’m in love.

Allow me to introduce you: this is the home and workspace of the decor / fashion blog Mint + Varnish, and it’s stunning and I want to marry it.

Tucked away near the California coast, the loft belongs to M + V owner Valerie Wildes and her husband (plus their two gorgeous cats)! Valerie describes her personal aesthetic as “simple, clean, and intentional”, which I think perfectly sums up her space β€” it just oozes dreamy Californian vibes.

The bed is one of my absolute favourite features, and Valerie mentioned that it’s even handmade!

“I met a furniture…
